The two extremes I can think of are Southern Gothic books like A Good Man is Hard to Find or The Devil all the Time and Transgressive fiction books like Trainspotting or Last Exit to Brooklyn. I love how both Southern Gothic and Transgressive Fiction both in a way shed light on the romanticization of rural and urban life in their own ways. I see the Southern Gothic genre shed a lot of light on racism, violence, and religion and books set in Urban settings shed light on drug use, prostitution, and gang violence.
