As part of a family Secret Santa, I've been given my brother's partner (24F) who I know very little about. I've already gotten her a nice hair oil, but im still ~£10 under budget. I know she enjoys reading and the remaining budget is perfect for a paperback. However im struggling on what to gift.
From my brother I know theres nothing on her TBR she doesn't already own. Shes enjoyed in the past 'Beach Read' by Emily Henry, 'Normal People' by Sally Rooney and "one of the Claire Keegan books" (less helpful). I know she won't enjoy any darker fiction, she DNF-ed 'A Little Life', and doesn't tend to read genre books like full-on Sci-fi, Romantasy or anything with excessive "spice".
I'm looking for a fairly safe bet, either romance or feel-good fiction. A romance with a unique set up would be incredible, similar to films like "Materialists" "About Time", or more recently released "Eternity" would be perfection!! Anything akin to "Love, Actually" would also work. I'm hoping for a book release in the last 5-ish years, but i'm flexible.
My top picks atm are "On the calculation of volume", "Small Pleasures" and "Evenings and Weekends" just due to their popularity this past year, but happy for more tailored picks based of her reading preferences.
Most importantly, this is a gift for my brother's partner – so it can't feature a prevelant pushy/judgemental sibling trope (e.g. Atonement), in case she thinks its me trying to send a message lol.
