My dad is a southern Baptist missionary (sort of??) but he’s fairly liberal considering how conservative he is.
For years I’ve been getting him commentaries focusing on specific books of the Bible that are hmmmm more focused on culture at the time etc as far as I can tell, but I’ve run out of the series I normally buy. He’s really liked The Story of God, but I’ve bought him all the ones that are out. I’d really like something that goes in depth on the cultural practices at the time vs the book of the Bible, if possible?
Edit: a coworker recommended Peter Enns’ The Bible for Normal People, and A Week in the Life of Corinth by Ben Witherington III. Any opinions?
