Had a friend say the world would be better if necromancy existed as it would give us a slave workforce. Yes, I know, SO much that can be unpacked there.
I responded that there was probably a good hundred books covering that very subject (fantastical workforce that frees up everyone else to have a sort of utopia existence) and how it's not actually a good idea.
Of course, now that I say that, I'm very curious which books you can suggest me that touch the subject.
Primarily audiobook library listener during work.
The only book I have personally read that might skim the edge of this prompt would be Brave New World. Sure, the workforce were humans but created and conditioned for the role.
I'm more thinking of topics like
-People get fulfillment from work
-Absolute leisure is not as great or healthy as people would want it to be
-Mindless slaves are still slaves and a world normalizing slavery is on a very steep spiral down
-The people will suffer if their deaths mean profit
