Looking for an Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman style book (doesn’t have to be a play), but the protagonist enjoys a significant public support, and then sees the cause he is fighting for become irrelevant, and people no longer care for his irrelevant rambling and “fight for justice/cause”.
So he keeps making crazy statements in the hope of one day reviving his movement, although people laugh at him behind his back (or even in front of it), calling him senile and irrelevant.

American Sniper fits the bill.
The Life and Times of Elon Musk.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley fits this perfectly
Sounds like Prince Harry’s life story.
