Hi, I absolutly love to read, specifically I love to read fantasy. Lately I've been in a bit of a slump. I don't know If it's because the book descriptions are just really bad, or if it's because they really are all practically the same book with different settings and characters, but l haven't been impressed. It could also be because I'm a little bit picky.
I love fantasy of any kind, and I don't mind if there's romance in it, but I don't like sexual stuff in it. I also don't like when the romance takes over the whole plot of the book. I don't want the characters to lose focuses on what they're supposed to be doing and instead, the romance should be just a way to raise the stakes or add depth to the characters interactions.
Any suggestions would be welcomed as i really want to getting out of this slump and enjoy reading again.

Jack Vance’s Dying Earth books. Not much in romance department, but definitely not the same book you’ve read
The Wandering Inn Pirate Aba
Michelle Sagara West Chronicles of Elantra,
Chris Evans Iron Elves,
Elizabeth Moon Paksenarrion Series,
Anne Bishop Tir Alainn series, & Others series,
Jane Lindskold Firekeeper series,
Barb Hendee Noble Dead series,
C.S. Friedman The Coldfire Trilogy,
PC Hodgell Kencyrath series,
Lynn Flewelling Tamir Triad,
The Sharing Knife Lois McMaster Bujold
Jim Butcher Codex Alera series,
I tend to read slightly older (pre-2020) fantasy novel because I also find all the stuffy coming out now really generic. I recommend these:
The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins if you like eerie magical realism.
The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo if you like asian-style fantasy settings.
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch if you like heist stories with snarky characters.
Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrew if you like urban fantasy with some very slow burn romance.
Dungeon Crawler Carl. It’s a quickly growing series that’s taking the fantasy genre to a whole new level. After reading this series, no other series will seem good enough. This is on a level unto itself.
