I've been re-watching the old-ish sci fi TV show Haven and love the weird mystery feel to it along with the friendships and romance subplots. I really want to find books with a similar feel.
The closest series I can think of is the Threshold series by Peter Clines.
Would likely need to be either Science Fiction or Paranormal to have that same weird mystery element. But the characters in the story are just as important, maybe found family or romance.
Any ideas?

Well, it’s Stephen King so *The Colorado Kid* as a base. Then there is *Under the Dome*.
