I've done some research before, but basically what I mean is "basically something like a buddy cop movie, or graphic yet somewhat humorous action – but as a book". If you've seen movies like Lethal Weapon, those movies have some R rated action, but there's also a ton of cynical and witty dialogue. Beverly Hills Cop would be the more kid friendly version, but even that one has some blood in it. I love that balance, the world is pretty ugly and lethal, but the main characters prevail and have a laugh about it.
So I'd want something similar – highly grounded (crime, blood, high stakes) but with a loose element to it to take the edge off (humor, wild dialogue). I am fine if the book is actually more clever about it than just dumb jokes after the death of bad people too; it doesn't have to be "dumb action themes", but it should still have that general element of quick pacing and a certain "heaviness" (not all sunshine and shit).
Doesn't neccessarily have to feature a main character dealing with law enforcement, but I'd prefer a "relatable" urban setting over, I don't know, something set in space or on a tropical island. While strong scenery is a huge plus, being able to actually picture what's going on also makes it easier for me to follow the plot instead of being preoccupied with the anomalities of the location (unless that is the point ala Lovecraft).
Examples for what I mean:
SNOW CRASH, for example, nails the tone quite well – the book is not a comedy totem and contains quite serious themes, yet the writing is just biting and full of zingers. I've previously been recommended SEVERANCE PACKAGE, which I felt also nailed the tone (although it was not quite as strong). So something like that, maybe? Doesn't feature crime fighting or buddy cops, but you know, that's more the archetype. If that exists, feel free to recommend those away, too!
Thank you! 🙂

Dungeon Crawler Carl. Think Hunger Games, but the whole world is in danger instead of just tributes. “The apocalypse will be televised”. And it’ll be gory and hilarious. It all happens fast too, by page 3 you’re pretty deep in drama. Just read the 1st chapter. See if it’s something you enjoy. From your description, I think you’ll like it. There’s a lot of witty banter, and non stop action.
Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coben (maybe more humor and less violence than you are looking for, but overall fits the vibe.)

Florida Man series by Carl Hiassan (a lot of his other books too.)
Maybe try Robert B Parker’s ‘Spenser’ series, very witty dialogue and attitude, some violence, good plots.
