I started reading as a teen with Lord of the Rings, then Game of Thrones. Both have their place in my heart. Since then, I’ve branched out quite a bit and avoided fantasy unknowingly.

Two years ago I started Sanderson, I’ve done Mistborn Era 1 and the Stormlight Archives + mid-book tie ins.

Others this year include Blood Over Brighthaven, Poppy War Book 1, and a cozy book about an orc Setting up a coffee shop (while I adored it, this is simultaneously where I hit my slump).

Since then my algorithms have naturally stopped trying to give me book content, so I’m clueless as to what is being raved about right now.

It could be a standalone, or it could be a series be it ongoing or finished. All I have to go off is that I’ve heard great things about The Will of the Many, and for some reason it just vibes Red Rising series so if that’s accurate I’d love to hear, because that’s one of my favourite series.

    1. Two all-time greats of the fantasy genre if you are interested in looking beyond “what is being raved about right now”: *The Curse of Chalion* and *The Goblin Emperor*

I have read quite a lot of fantasy and my favourite author is Robin Hobb. Her writing is brilliant and her character building is second to none. Also she has written something like 19 books, so there is plenty to keep you going if you like her writing.

You might like the LitRPG (or Progressive Fantasy) genre. Fantasy with a “leveling” twist, starting at level 1 and progressing through each universe’s magic/xp System. The biggest downside is a lot of these series get like a dozen books and never really finish and some people don’t like stat blocks. But I recommend giving them a shot!

I experienced these on Audible as audiobooks

*The Perfect Run* (quicksave and load on death. Completed.)

      *Life Reset* (completed, and satisfyingly)

*Cradle* (one of the original hits)

*He Who Fights With Monsters* (my introduction to the genre. I liked the first 6 books, despite hating the protagonist)

*The Primal Hunter* (my favorite for a while)

      *Beastborne*

*Reborn as a Demonic Tree* (current favorite)

*The Ripple System* made me laugh countless times.

*Undead Kingdom* made me laugh many times because of how goofy and edge lord it is. Still a decent enough story though. Completed

*System Universe* I am on book 2 so far and can vouch for this being great. Maybe wait until you’ve read some others to appreciate it fully.

Hot take: Don’t even bother with *Dungeon Crawler Carl*. I honestly hate that lowest common denominator series. It’s like being stuck in the room with your annoying cousin who thinks screeching repetitive, bad jokes makes him funny. There are countless better LitRPG series.
