As someone who has never read or watched game of thrones… I’ve finally convinced myself to get into it but I honestly don’t know where to start.
Should I watch the shows first? Or read the books? In what order? Any tips?😭
Read the books, starting with A Game of Thrones. They’re so good! The series is incomplete, but honestly that’s better than the way the show ended, and maybe someday there will be another book in the series if not the actual ending. There are five books out in the main series, just read them in publication order. A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, A Dance With Dragons. If you enjoy those, then I’d also recommend checking out Fire and Blood, which is what the show House of the Dragon is based on. And A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is set a bit before the events of Game of Thrones, following a Knight and his Squire on various adventures. They’re making that one into a show coming out this next year as well. In general I’d say read the books before watching anything, they’re almost always better.
Nightgasm on
The show.
The books are great but they will never be ended as Martin clearly has given up.
For all the hate many give the shows ending it was Martins intended ending for the books and pretty obviously makes sense with what was written. The showrunners did have to fill in some details to get characters from where the books left off to Martins ending but it’s still Martins ending.
The final season of the show is very rushed after the mid point of the season but the story details still feel appropriate for the character arcs (which is not the same as satisfying as one of Martins thing in this series is showing that characters don’t usually get heroic or satisfying endings).
