So this might be too niche, but I’ll try anyway. My step-niece is 9 years old and her special interest is cats. Domestic cats, specifically. She reads a little above her grade level. Does anyone have any suggestions for cool books involving cats? Novels, photo books, anything interesting or engaging.

I had a couple of illustrated guides to cats when I was about her age but I’m ancient now (48) and can’t recall the titles. I know one was the size of a field guide and the other was more like a coffee table book.

The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa

a sweet, relatively short and easy to read book. if she likes whimsical stories inspired by fairy tales, cozy studio ghibli movies, and books, its worth a look. i think i remember it being age appropriate but double check.

and of course, warrior cats is always a great option for someone her age, as a girl who was also obsessed with cats as a kid

    3. Oh yeah, I was this kid.

Any cat care and breed standard book with photos was great. Unfortunately I don’t have any up to date recommendations :/
Time Cat by Lloyd Alexander, Varjak Paw and its sequel by SF Said, The Cats of Cuckoo Square by Adele Geras. If any other titles float up from the depths of my memory I will come back and add them, but these were my favorites and came to mind readily. Someone else said Warrior Cats and I agree- the Warriors world is expansive at this point with lots of spin offs and follow ups to the original series.
