I realised that I love thinking about the implications of certain tropes that get glossed over and used for horror purposes. Absolutely adore "Flowers for Algernon" and how, by putting it in first person, you experience the tragic horror of slowly losing your intelligence and being powerless to do anything. Or the body swap horror of "Sibs" by f. paul wilson and "Apastoral: A Mistopia" by Lee D. Thompson and how now your sense of self and your personal identity is something that can be taken away and used in horrific ways. Follow delving into the idea of "someone else is me right now" or "I don't know how much of what I am thinking is my own thoughts."
Obviously there's lovecraft and stuff like "What if the colour spectrum was evil?" or "What if me being racist about this town of weirdos was correct?"
I know I mentioned examples of psychological horror, but I'm open to have any type of tropes subverted or recontextualised for horror purposes or just recontextualising something to talk about the implications of something
