My SIL is pregnant with twins, and her younger son (my nephew, 9M) isn't all that enthused about the incoming additions to the family. He's fascinated by science and loves doing 'experiments' (like having me film his pool cannonballs so he can compare and test the techniques to produce the biggest splash, or see if the broken bar stool spins faster or more rotations with different weights on the seat).

I'd love to find him a resource about infant and child development so that he can be fascinated observing the babies growing, learning to focus their eyes, crawl, etc. I'm hoping this would make him more interested in them rather than seeing them as an intrusion into his world (he's used to being the youngest in the family). Does anyone have any suggestions for books or other resources on baby development that would be appropriate and engaging for him to read? He has AuDHD and is not the strongest reader so something with engaging graphics, figures, or illustrations would be especially welcome.

If your nephew loves experimenting, he might enjoy How Babies Grow and Develop (Usborne Illustrated Guides)… it’s full of bright illustrations and simple explanations of how babies learn to crawl, grab, and focus their eyes. Another great one is The Science of Babies by David Elizalde, which frames baby development like mini science experiments he can observe and track. As someone who studied a bit of psychology I think these are perfect:)
