Book with great angst and inspiration

Hi everyone.

I need a book suggestion and it's going to be extremely specific because I'm craving a very specific sort of story so please help me if anyone can 🙂

So I need a story that is preferably historical but if it's not, that's ok.

I need it to be fiction.

I prefer the main character to be a boy, but if they are not a boy, it's ok.

I need the plot to be about the main character, who is young (preferably a teen or even younger) in the clench of poverty, someone who is working and can't study. But one day (insert whatever happens here) and they decide to study hard. And because of that they'll save themselves from poverty and become successful.

I really like to see the character grow up slowly into adulthood. Like I want to live with them.

Having a romance sub-plot is a plus plus 🙂

I love it to be filled with angst and sadness. Like I'm planning to cry rivers. But I NEED a happy ending for the love of all that is lovely.

(I know I'm asking for too much, but really hope to find a book with this kind of plot).
