Hi! I’m relatively new to reading novels again. I’m in my 20s, and when I was around 14 I used to read a lot more. But trying to force myself to “read the classics” totally killed my passion for reading, and now I don’t have any book on my shelf that genuinely grabs me.
I started reading Frankenstein and I just couldn’t handle the writing style… I got exactly halfway through and dropped it. I used to really like science fiction — The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Illustrated Man (I know Bradbury said he wasn’t a sci-fi writer, yada yada). I also loved The Picture of Dorian Gray, El túnel, and Sobre héroes y tumbas (by Sabato). I enjoy books with a philosophical tone, but I don’t want the writing style to be too “trippy.” I tried Murakami — I liked it, but it feels like rowing a boat through caramel.
I thought about starting Dune, but it’s so long and I’m scared I won’t finish it…
Besides books, I really like graphic adventure games for it's story telling— especially the stories in The Secret of Monkey Island or Grim Fandango. It sounds very Gen-Z (because I am), but I kind of want a book like Mouthwashing…
