I’ve got an 8 and a half year old who is so gifted in reading/vocabulary/reading comprehension. There’s one issue: they just don’t love reading!

I have an idea for Christmas. This is not my diabolical plan to trick them into loving reading, it’s just a way to show them how engaging it can be.

My idea: Santa gifts a book club. Either he gifts three versions of the same book (mom, dad, and kid) or one version we pass around. He also brings 3 notebooks and 3 pens for note taking while reading. All three family members read the books and they have a book club discussion during which the parents take the book very seriously and (hopefully) stretch the rubber bands of kiddo’s mind to show how involved and engaging reading can be.

My challenge: what book? Our kid has liked the Loud House graphic novels, the Babysitters Club graphic novels, and the Dog Man graphic novels.

I’d love something completely different (ie not another book in these series), but still a graphic novel. I want to start in their lane.

Any suggestions? Also, one book to share? Or commit to over consumption and get three of the same?
