Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
Broken earth trilogy, or anything else by NK Jemisin (for fantastic fantasy that is also literary and heady like the books she loves in the top section). Broken earth trilogy is my pick. The city we became duology for the most beautiful love letter to NY. Dreamblood or inheritance trilogies for higher fantasy.
Hamnet by Maggie ofarrell (for song of Achilles, bell jar, and other tear jerkers in that top section). Circe by Madeline miller if she hasn’t read it and loves SOA
The nickel boys by colson whitehead (for the outsiders, and all the tear jerkers in the first section)
The hierarchy series by James Islington, 2 books out so far (for all the fantasy in the series – so far, feels a bit like a grown up hunger games)

Autobiography of a Geisha by Sayo Masuda.
If she liked Memoir of a Geisha, Sanyo Masuda’s book was a big influence of that. It’s a true story and carries with it the same sense of tragedy and lost of a survivor. I felt it more so because it doesn’t have the sympathy of an author of fiction that Memoir if a Geisha has.
