    Hi everyone!

I’m 27 remote software engineer and I’ve never really been a reader. The only book I’ve finished on my own is Atomic Habits, which helped me during a tough time in my life.

Now I want to read more. Not just one book, but many books. I want to improve myself, become a better communicator, and grow as a person.

What book should I start with? I’m open to anything that might hook me.

    Thanks!

    1. For nonfiction, *What If* – Randall Munroe. Q&A format books tend to be easy nonfiction reads, and crazy physics hypotheticals are just the right balance of nerdy and fun, with the illustrations tying it all together.

Similarly, *Will my Cat Eat my Eyeballs?* by Caitlin Doughty. Questions she’s gotten from children about death and funerals, compiled and answered in her entertaining style.

For fiction, I’ve found comedies to be easy reads. Terry Pratchett’s *Discworld* novels are short and sweet and have gotten me out of reading slumps before. I’m also really fond of *Lamb* by Christopher Moore. That one’s my go-to if I’m gifting someone a book.

And of course the comedic book I recommend to everyone is *John Dies at the End* by David Wong. It’s a horror-comedy, which is a really weird combo that somehow works. I recommend it not because it’s the best or funniest, but because I’ve never read anything else quite like it, and I doubt you will either.
