I'm making a list of books that could be considered foundational texts for YA. The books don't have to have been originally published as YA, but had ripple effects on what the genre would become. What would you add to this list?
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
- Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
- The Outsiders by SE Hinton
- Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden
- Are You There God, It's Me Margaret and Forever by Judy Blume
- The Pigman by Paul Zindel
- The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
- Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block
- Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler

Christopher Pike books (e.g., Remember Me, the Final Friends series, Last Act, Monster, etc.)
If we’re going way back, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books.
I’d say The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
