I'm a 38 year old guy. I don't read much at all, but I've always been a fan of fantasy video games and movies. In an effort to be more diverse, and to also have something to share with my wife, I tried Fourth Wing on her suggestion.
I'm actually really enjoy it in a lot of ways. The larger story is interesting, and I like the main character for the most part. For whatever reason, stories about women having to persevere have always gotten to me (Hunger Games, Moana, Clair Obscur: E33, Horizon Zero Dawn, Celeste). Not that that's a prerequisite for anything I enjoy. I also like how quick the story moves. As someone with ADHD who will mostly be listening to this at work, I don't want anything too dense.
To mention some issues I have with the book, her constantly drooling over the guys is a bit much at times (I realize that's exactly the point of these kinds of books). It hasn't been too bad, and kind of plays for comedy to me as a straight man, but it is a bit much. And I know I'm not one to be judging, but some of the writing just seems kind of bad. She uses the phrase "for the win" more than once, which just seems really out of place. Again, I get that that's about the author trying to connect to a certain audience in a certain way that doesn't apply to me at all.
So I guess I'm looking for something tonally similar, but not specifically geared towards the sex stuff. Bonus points if it has a well done audiobook.

Maybe *The Priory of the Orange Tree* by Samantha Shannon? It has some politics, religion, romance, dragons and interesting world building. I cannot stand romantasy as a genre, so I can guarantee that this book does not have any constant drooling moments. It has 2 prequels but it can be read as a standalone easily.
