It seems (from varied online recommendations and an in-person book club) that wildly- and widely-known and recommended books are seldom a fit for me, yet neither are obscure titles.
If you’re so inclined, please recommend a title/author based on some books I’ve read that actually engaged me. I’m a reader who enjoys a tale well told with well-developed characters. I’m particularly interested in the human condition.
I’ve read and found these titles to be notable, albeit in various ways:
• The Women on Platform Two by Laura Anthony
• The Sunken Road by Ciarán McMenamin
• Leonard and Hungry Paul by Rónán Hession
• The Sunflower Boys by Sam Wachman
• Time of the Child by Niall Williams
• When the Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzén
• Beasts of the Sea by Iida Turpeinen
• Fresh Water for Flowers by Valérie Perrin
• The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai
• The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré
• Auē by Becky Manawatu
Thanks for your consideration!
