I have been recently fixated on this idea that a lot of popular science fiction, horrors, and fantasies is influenced by real world events. For example, StarTrek was inspired by the politics of the cold war, the Twilight Zone was influenced Rod Serling’s experience in WW2, X-Men inspired by civil rights and so on. I have been used to believing that these stories simply come out of creative and forward thinking minds and never connected the stories to real world events. Does anyone know of any books that tackles this subject? A book about the politics and social issues that inspired these creative works?
