I know so many people ask this but I don’t necessarily want the same themes (trauma, SA, heartbreak), I am instead looking for the same style of writing in terms of depth and world building.
A Little Life was the first book I’ve ever read that I loved because of how much detail is put in so you can involve yourself and feel every win and loss deeply. By the end of the book you feel as if you’ve lived their entire life with them.
Some trauma-themed books are entertaining but do not satisfy me as the actual writing is very boring. Yanagihara’s prose could be said to have some issues but I personally loved it the entire way through.
TLDR: I don’t necessarily want similar-theme books, but books with good writing of adult stories. This could be anything, parenting, adventure, crises, love, but to me the writing is more important than the story being told and A Little Life, in my opinion, nailed both perfectly.
