I'm looking for books with doomed / despaired and lonely people as its main characters.
Setting – preferably present time or very recent past.
A NEET, a shut-in, an unemployed person as a lead would be perfect, or just someone who's bored with and tired of their mundane exhausting job. They feel stuck in life, lack fullfilment and don't see any light on their way, have suicidal tendencies, be it passive or active, maybe are a dissapointment to their family.
Great if it has an audiobook version, since that's my more or less only method of consuming literary fiction.
I've listened to Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human and Jack London's Martin Eden but am looking for something even more relatable to the criteria listed.
