I'm looking for books of any genre that focus on the beliefs, myths and rituals of a religious community or cult (either established or burgeoning) with both the perspectives of followers and unbelievers detailed, with a preference for the viewpoint of a skeptic or anthropologist.
Examples I've enjoyed include:
Sci-Fi books: Octavia Butler's Earthseed series, Frank Herbert's Dune
Memoir: Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen
Film: Sound of My Voice (2011) directed by Zal Batmanglij
Mini-Series: Midnight Mass (2021) by Mike Flanagan
