I would love recommendations for my 10 year old voracious reader! She is currently going through a reading slump with a lot of books and seems very meh about it. I would love to get her on track to enjoying them again – her favorites so far have been the Aru shah series, land of stories, Harry Potter, ALL the graphic novels and more.

She refuses to read Percy Jackson even though she absolutely loves Greek mythology and has obsessively read the d’aulaires’ book of Greek myths . Apparently the first book was too boring and she refuses to persist. I’ve got her the fablehaven series for Christmas and I hope she enjoys them.

I would love recs to get her out of this slump! I feel she misses having a series that she cant get enough of! Thank you in advance!

Editing to add – somehow she doesn’t enjoy stories about animals as much as she likes stories about people!

*Marikit and the Ocean of Stars*

      *Witchlings*

      *The Marvellers*

*Vanya and the Wild Hunt.* I thought this one had some pacing issues, but if she like Indian mythology, she might like it.

    3. 10 year old girls sometimes start to want more mature things, maybe feel like they’re aging out of the younger middle grade fiction. I might try some girl centered adventure/fantasy, Princess academy by Shannon Hale, The Golden Compass, True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
By Avi, maybe the younger Tamora Pierce, Catherine Called Birdie. Can also suggest realistic fiction if you think she’d want that.

She’s read all the classic chosen child stories. Time for a satirical take on the chosen child: Alkatraz vs The Evil Librarians.

It’s very funny and entertaining, especially if you’re familiar with the stories it’s playing off of.
