I have a long drive ahead of me tomorrow (16 or 17 hours) and am looking for a good book to listen to. I have a few specific requests.
First, it MUST BE STAND ALONE. I have several series in my TBR shelf, but I want one book to listen to for the drive without further commitment to the series.
I do not want a comedy (think Douglas Adams, Bobiverse series, or Dungeon Crawler Carl). Humorous moments are fine but I dont want the overall tone to be comedy.
Bonus points for especially well made audio narration (like Project Hail Mary or Dungeon Crawler Carl).
Sci fi I've read recently and enjoyed include Andy Weir's The Martian and Project Hail Mary, Martha Wells's Murderbot Diaries,
I'm not against a solid Fantasy stand alone either with the same above requests.

Against a Dark Background by Iain M Banks
House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds
Kraken by China Mieville. Urban Fantasy. A giant squid is stolen from a museum. Reality goes weird.
