What fictional book should everyone read at least once?

**Nostromo** by Joseph Conrad. Not only is it a great adventure novel it is one of the most beautifully written novels of all time. David Lean was going to make it into a movie, but unfortunately he passed away right before he was able to do so and no one has tried since.
