My 10 year old son loves reading.
He was an early reader, started on his own when he was not quite 4, and has been reading at or above a 13-year-old reading level since he was 8. His school tests don't go higher than "at or above 13". This just to say, his reading skills aren't limiting him.
Right now, he reads mostly funny graphic novels or picture-rich books such as Dog Man, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Worst Week Ever!, Bunny vs Monkey, etc. And he also likes Donald Duck comics. This is absolutely fine, I want him to read what he enjoys!
I would also want him to eventually become an adult who still enjoys reading. Be it graphic novels or regular chapter books, whatever he likes. I would just love for him to retain that ability to crawl into the corner of the couch with a book and enjoy himself.
But I can't find any books that would bridge that gap. When I look for graphic novels for teenagers the books I find are all either Super Serious, or they're romance focused (which he thinks is boring). I also can't really find funny books at a higher reading level that would interest a 10 year old.
Does anyone have any good ideas?
(We're Dutch, but don't worry about finding books that are written in or translated to Dutch, because I'll look that up myself; and either way he's been reading some of the books he regularly reads in English too)
