I’m a relatively new reader and don’t know the horror scene at all.
My history:
The Outsider and The Shining, by Stephen King
What I liked about them:
– The truly supernatural (might have some psychological aspects but the story is driven by a true supernatural monster)
– The mystery and world building growing hand in hand
– The main cast characters are not bad, stupid, or severely depressed. This is a big one as I really appreciate that the characters in these books are normal people who are trying their best. They might have some tragic events in their history but these events don’t define them and have developed their psyche past the trauma. Wendy, Jack and Ralph are good people who struggle and are fun to root for.
My past favorite horror content:
– The Evil Within I/II
– Haunting of Hill House show (I’ve been recommended the book too)
– Supernatural
– Sinister
– Conjuring
I was gonna just get another random King book but figured I’d try to get some seasoned opinions from here, thank you so much!
