The last book in that genre that I've read was "Insomnia" by Stephen King. It was so creative, suspenseful, and thrilling… I didn't really connect with that old main character; I did enjoy the story and also the other characters tho. It was way longer than it should've been/very slow-paced, but it still managed to get me out of the reading slump. Could you please recommend more books like that?
Also, Norwegian Wood, South of the b. West of the sun and Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki by Murakami also hooked me and immediately got me out of a slump. I DNF'd Kafka on the Shore, but should I give it another try?

Have you tried Killing Commendatore by Murakami?
