Hello! Every year for Christmas, I give my MIL a book (or two) and I usually do a pretty good job. I tend to stick to a newer release because she’s a big reader who waits for a library hold to come in so a new release means it’s less likely that she has already read it. She tends to like Irish literature (e.g., Claire Keegan), interesting non-fiction (e.g., Patrick Radden Keefe’s various works) and also some spy novels (e.g., John le Carre).

I’m stuck this year. I’ve been in the throes of my first year of parenting so no longer have a pulse on what’s new and well received so I’ve come to you r/books. Anything good out in the last year that might match my MIL’s taste in books?

    1. Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid is my favourite book that came out this year

For Irish fiction, I read Evenings and Weekends by Oisín McKenna and I absolutely loved it, it came out in 2024 though so she might have already read it
