I am looking for good YA suggestions for my 10 yo who's just starting to get into reading for pleasure. She's quite a bit into mysteries and fantasy, some Harry Potter and Tolkien, but they are a bit too dense for her reading level (Tolkien fs). I was suggested Shadow and Bone books by a reader but the romance element is not a big selling point at her age (happy for this to not be about boys anyway).
Anyone got any good suggestions or early favorites that I can take credit for Christmas?
