I’m looking for books that are based on true stories of survival in harsh or extreme circumstances. I’ve recently read “In the Heart of the Sea” and thought it was absolutely incredible. The author did an outstanding job of discussing everything about the sinking of the Essex, and I was so curious to keep reading.
I’ve also read “The Indifferent Stars Above” and that’s one of my favorite books. I do like the time period both stories are from, and all the things that went wrong that led to the circumstances is fascinating to me.
I would love to read more stories that focus on these types of stories.

Maus. This is a two-part, graphic novel, but well worth reading.
I’m reading A Marriage At Sea right now (It has a different title in the UK where it was first published last year). It is one of the five nonfiction books in the top ten books of the year from the NYT. It had many accolades in the UK also.
“Secrets and Spies” is a collection of WWII true stories and you may find some of the prison escape ones interesting.
Endurance by Alfred Lansing
I loved “In the Heart of the Sea” and am sure you would also like “Shadow Divers.” It’s not that far back in time, but holy shit it’s such an epic story
