I am an 18f and I loved fairy ish books as a kid but I hate the main stream fantasy books that are popular now(no hate i just dont like how complicated they are) I loved Inkheart and The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer as a kid. I've also read recently The Land of Lost Things by John Connolly and I absolutely loved that book. I also enjoyed alot of Neil Gaimen's work(i love his work not his actions) any recommendations that are similar to some of these books would be great!!

Juliet Marillier, (wildwood Dancing in particular but I love so many of her books)
Katherine Arden, The Bear and the Nightingale
Emily Wilde
Naomi Novik, Spinning Silver
Robin McKinley-Beauty, (I think she has a few others I haven’t read yet)
I also loved the Inkheart series! A classic that has that fairy tale vibe is “The secret garden.” I find most classics to be kind of wordy/slow-paced but if you can get behind that, it’s a good book.
Also I read All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Steifvater a long time ago and liked it. I hardly remember any particular things in the story but for some reason it stuck with me, even though I can’t remember why. I plan on rereading, and if I remember correctly it’s sort of fantasy/magic realism, so I recommend that too (though it’s less of a light whimsical read. I don’t think it’s dark either, but not the disney kind of fantasy story.)
Stephen King’s Fairy Tale was great
