Hi everyone,
I’m looking for recommendations that can capture me the same way some of my favorite reads have. Books I’ve loved include:
- The Count of Monte Cristo
- The Idiot
- The Hobbit
- Station Eleven
- A Gentleman in Moscow
- (and to some extent The Road & Lord of the Flies)
I’d love something with that same mix of depth, atmosphere, and storytelling that keeps me hooked for hours. Ideally, novels that are immersive, character‑driven, and maybe even a bit philosophical or adventurous.
Books I already own and plan to read in 2026:
- The Brothers Karamazov
- Crime and Punishment
- Project Hail Mary
- James
- Lonesome Dove
So I’m looking for other suggestions beyond these.
What would you recommend?

Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
The Lord of the Rings would be an obvious one. I’m doing a reread now, and it’s still pretty great!
The first law world by Joe Abercrombie. Perhaps a less fancy style of writing as some of the ones above but very very character focused.
Project Hail Mary is great tho
***Fabrications*** by Author Nazo
It’s a short time-bend drama made a newly young published author. I highly recommend checking his books out!
Obligatory Dungeon Crawler Carl rec.
The Goldfinch
So damn good!
