He would hide in his closets. It was a twisted tale of psychotic breakdowns & drug fueled devolution., something that keeps you really engaged.

Another short story- Orange Is for Anguish, Blue for Insanity by David Morrell. It was published in an anthology called Prime Evil, about an artist whose paintings drive viewers insane.

Flowers for algernon, can’t say too much but the mc essentially starts getting smarter. And then doesn’t stop getting smarter, progressively.
The house of salt and sorrows—I found it to be a pretty atmospheric book.
