War history book suggestions for my dad?

I want to get a book for my dad for Christmas and I know he’s very into war history stuff. Ideally I’d get a book about wars in Canada but I don’t know where to start since I myself am not into that.

My dad used to be in the army and is currently an air vehicle pilot (trying not to reveal too much about him) so books about planes, jets or helicopters that are used in wars could also be good.
