I'm in an AP English Lit class and I'm reaching the end of my first independent reading book and need to pick out a new one, but I want it to be one I actually want to read. I'm interested in the mid-late 20th century, particularly during and post WWII. I'm also interested in Asian historical fiction set during time period (I'm a big fan of the Ghibli movies Grave of The Fireflies and From Up On Poppy Hill), but it's not a requirement! Does anyone have some good recommendations?

The Quiet American by Graham Greene
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee – It takes place from the early 1900s to 1989 in Japan
Beasts of a Little Land by Juhea Kim – Takes place in Korea (during Japanese occupation) from 1917 to 1965
Both are really good books. Happy reading!
