Hey everyone, I'm shopping for my niece's (11 years old) Christmas gifts and each year I try to get her at least 1 book/book series. When asked she usually replies that she likes magic and fantasy in a book, but recently I encouraged her to read Hunger Games and she DEVOURED the series, so I'm guessing we can add dystopian themes in there too.
From her own writing, she often writes of a female protagonist living within poverty but has a hidden innate gift/talent, usually magical, with names such as Raven or Luna.
I feel like she's ready to break into more of the YA world, but am unsure where to go next without going too mature. I considered Divergent, but I haven't read it and have heard not great things, so any ideas would be amazing!

Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett
Has she read the two hunger games prequels? they’re very good.
A couple other books: The Kill Factor by Ben Oliver and Snowglobe by Park Soyoung
The Search for Wondla by Tony DiTerlizzi, it’s about a 12 yo girl who’s raised underground by robots to eventually join the rest of the human population – but when she finally goes to do so she discovers things have gone amiss. (Aliens have taken over the planet)Â
Edit: I recently bought these for my sisters and was presently surprised to see the copies I got had pictures in them! Super would recommend for that reason lolÂ
A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking and Minor Mage, both by T Kingfisher.
