Golden hill by Francis spufford.
This novel is listed as ' one of the greatest novels of the 21st century ' but I struggled to read and finish this novel.
The lead character was likeable and it wwas quite atmospheric but, for me, the narrative flow and use of period language and conversation style got to me. I've previously read novels in the ' older/period' style and did ok with them. But this one got to me.
Can anyone else relate or am I flying solo on this one?
