Hello! 33-year-old stay-at-home mom here. I loved YA fiction growing up, but stopped reading it around the early 2010’s because I felt I had outgrown the genre. I went on to read some self-help, nonfiction, and biographies. Then I had a baby, and now I rarely read at all; in the off-chance I do have time to read, it’s parenting books.
I’d like to get back into reading fiction again, but I’m not too sure where to start. I’ve always wanted to self-publish a YA novel (I’ve self-published short stories in the past) but I feel a bit out of touch with the genre now, so that’s why I’m leaning toward YA fiction (essentially for research). I have a general idea for what the story would be, but I’m not sure what high school and teenage friendship/relationship dynamics are like in a post-pandemic world.
What would you all suggest?
