First off, if my coworker saw me here, no you didn’t.

Second, I try really hard to get into books but I have aphantasia so I’m unable to “picture things” in my head unless there’s a visual aspect or something that isn’t so specific with description I get lost trying to figure it out. Hence why fanfic has always hit that spot for me. It gives me characters and locations to use that exist already.

And I’m in no way bashing some of the incredible fic writers I’ve found— they’re incredible. But I need something more mainstream I can talk about with coworkers and friends.

I usually read Wynonna Earp, Motherland: Fort Salem or one-offs based around other femme-forward, queer shows/movies I love.

If anyone has recommendations for series’ or stories to start getting into or authors you think would hit that mark of slightly campy, queer, femme, sci-fi/fantasy with characters that feel real enough for my (bad) brain to contain, I would love anything you’ve got for me!

Thanks for your time and suggestions in advance.

    1. Try Sarah Gailey, maybe Upright Women Wanted for the old west but queer vibes, or Becky Chambers’ The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet for campy queer space vibes.

Also consider the Murderbot series, especially if it having a show would help.
