Last year I got my mom "the queen of steeplechase park" for Christmas and it was a big hit. She grew up in Long Island with an Italian family so it got real close to home. I'm looking for more suggestions, she loves American historical fiction, especially immigrant stories. When I was little we read all the Little House on the Prairie books together, so that's a really important shared memory too.
