Personally I have never read much of these genres, but I want to challenge myself and find one that I enjoy. I think the problem, is that most are about a single murder, or maybe multiple, (and that is still a problem) but my brain always defaults too, "The entire world is messed up with this same energy we could be fighting political corruption!" There's a few twist here and there, we think it's the buttler the entire time but it's ACTYALLY his brother! And I've already gotten there several steps ahead. If it's from the victims pov, they get injured, are chased around a bunch, 911/police fails to help, she kills him, just barely survives. I guess that often the plot takes itself too seriously or is just written pretty bad. For example, I loved the movies Clue and The Shining!
So just some good starter classics in these genres or something that breaks the mold?
