I just finished reading Milk Fed by Melissa Broder. I was really hooked by the first half of it, but when I realized it was going towards a happy ending, I was really disappointed! I was expecting her desire to consume her 🙁 Any suggestions on a similar book that has the same realism, maybe even neuroticism, and the psychological aspect, but gets stranger? Absurdism is fine but I tend to stay away from fantasy.
I *loved* Paradise Logic by Sophie Kemp – also looking for something similar to that. I just picked up Big Swiss by Jen Beagin as well.

Not familiar with the books you mentioned, but Earthlings by Sayaka Murata might for your description – gets weirder and weirder, absurdist ending, definitely not fantasy

Big Swiss is it!! Also look at anything by Alexandra Kleeman (thinking of Everything Under the Sun especially) and Alissa Nutting (Made for Love).
