I read this book on my kindle within the last year and found it to be wonderful. now I don't read often so when I do it's kind of a thing for me. looking for something that has that same quality of story telling.
I know John Williams has authored other books but nothing else drew me in the way Stoner did. I'm also a fan of sci-fi.
I might end up rereading it if I can't find anything. thanks

I recently read *Stoner* with its focus on academia, marriage, small town life, and more. My first thought is *Straight Man* by Richard Russo. Not as dark as *Stoner*, I actually like it much more. The MC is an English professor dealing with department politics in a small college town as well as his marital problems and his frustration with the path his life has taken. Russo wrote several other novels that you might also enjoy, including *Empire Falls* which won the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.
I just read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt and it has this kind of storytelling. (I read Stoner this year too.)
A Single man by Christopher Isherwood is solid gold
I just finished Butchers Crossing by John Williams. Read Stoner a few months ago. Highly suggest it.
Crossing To Safety by Wallace Stegner
