I’m looking for a book that fits the description above for a friend as a gift. He’s currently reading Crime and Punishment, and has also read The Bell Jar. But other than that, I’m not sure. He’s very into philosophy and philosophical conversations, very “what makes ‘right’ right and ‘wrong’ wrong?”
Any help is appreciated!

I’m not a huge book person but My mom received the 5 people you meet in heaven as a gift in the early 2000s but she still talks about how much it has stuck with her.
As an eighth grader, *Fahrenheit 451* and *The Giver* made me who I am today lol. Ditto *Flowers for Algernon* by Danielle Keyes which I read later in life but still resonates
The Stranger by Albert Camus
