“high concept” mystery books

Browsing through mystery sections usually yields stories about detectives or marriages gone very wrong or books that have 'girl' in the title, and no hate because i love a good thriller or murder mystery.

But right now i'm looking for mystery stories that are, i don't know, on a larger scale or more complex than you typically find in those, i suppose? Something that feels more like the TV shows Lost or Dark. I think these might also be called 'mystery box' stories?

So far from what i've found that best captures this sort of mysterious, enigmatic vibe is the Southern Reach series by Jeff VanderMeer.

I'm guessing most suggestions would be scifi, but so long as they somehow meet the main criteria, suggestions for any genre or any type of story whether they be more adventure or character driven or whatever are totally welcome.
