For Christmas, I want to create a book club menu for my grandma. The idea is that each month we’ll have 2-3 options, select one, and then read and discuss. She enjoys fiction with a historical backdrop and loves Kristin Hannah and Anthony Doerr. We both typically enjoy literary fiction as well (classics, award winners, etc.) but I’m in a slump with a toddler and really need motivation to keep pages turning. She’s not into fantasy but does enjoy mysteries and maybe some dystopia. Narrative nonfiction like Educated by Westover would also work. Grandma is a voracious reader so I think more contemporary options (published within the last 3 years or so) would be ideal since she’s less likely to have already read them. Please send me all of your suggestions!
